BitLife Updates: Latest News and What Changed

Quick Answer

BitLife updates are new versions of the game released by its developer, Candywriter. Major updates usually land every two weeks to a month, and smaller fixes and fresh weekly challenges arrive in between. Every update is free through Google Play or the App Store — you never need to download a file from a website.

This page is a living guide to how updates work. We refresh it as new versions land, so you can always check what changed, where official news is posted, and how to make sure your own game is up to date.

How BitLife Updates Work

BitLife is not a finished, frozen game. Candywriter keeps building it, and the game you play today has far more content than the one that launched in 2018.

Major updates

A major update is a big release that adds something new to play with: a new feature, a new system, or a whole new pack. The community-run BitLife Wiki tracks these releases and notes that a new major update arrives roughly every two weeks to a month, with dozens of major updates released over the game’s life.

Small fixes and weekly challenges

Between the big releases, smaller updates fix bugs and adjust balance. On top of that, a new weekly challenge appears almost every week, giving every player a fresh set of goals even when no big feature has just landed. Our BitLife challenges hub explains how those challenges work.

What Updates Usually Add

No two updates are the same, but most of them add one or more of these things.

New features and special careers

Many big updates add a new system or a new special career — things like landlord tools, the stock market, or new job packs. Paid packs that arrive this way are always optional extras sold inside the official app, and we explain how they work in our guide to BitLife Premium and God Mode.

New challenges, countries, and items

Smaller content updates often add new countries to live in, new ribbons and achievements, new pets and items, and the weekly challenge itself.

Bug fixes and balance changes

Some updates change nothing you can see. They fix crashes, repair broken events, and adjust how often things happen. These quiet updates still matter, because they keep your saved lives running smoothly.

Where Official Update News Is Posted

Trust only three places for real update news:

  • The “What’s New” section on the game’s page in Google Play or the App Store. This is Candywriter’s own changelog, written for every release.
  • The official BitLife social accounts. The game is known as BitLifeApp on social media, and new features and challenges are announced there first.
  • The in-game news and challenge screens inside the app itself.

Websites that offer “update files” or early downloads are not official. Real updates only ever come through your app store. Membership features that updates have added over the years, such as Bitizenship, are covered in our guide on what Bitizen does in BitLife.

How to Update BitLife

On Android

  1. Open the Google Play Store app.
  2. Tap your profile picture, then Manage apps & device.
  3. Under “Updates available,” find BitLife and tap Update. Or open the BitLife store page and tap the Update button there.
  4. Wait for the download to finish, then open the game as normal.

On iPhone and iPad

  1. Open the App Store.
  2. Tap your profile picture at the top of the screen.
  3. Scroll to the list of pending updates and find BitLife.
  4. Tap Update next to it — or tap Update All to update everything at once.

Turn on automatic updates

If you never want to think about this, enable auto-update for BitLife in your store settings. New versions then install on their own, and you always play the current game.

How to Check Your Current Version

Open BitLife’s page in your app store. If you see an Update button, a newer version is waiting for you. If you only see Open, you are already current. The store page also shows the version history and the date of the latest release, which is the safest way to confirm what you are running — random websites often list wrong or invented version numbers, so do not trust them.

Why an Update May Reach You Later

Players do not always get a new version on the same day. iOS and Android releases can land at slightly different times, and stores roll updates out in stages. The BitLife Wiki also notes that many Android updates are “catch-up” releases that bring Android players features iOS received earlier. If a friend has a feature you cannot see yet, update the app, wait a day or two, and check again before worrying.
